Leading the charge at Anohka Distillery, Gurpreet took a very circuitous route to get where he is today. He earned a degree in physics, before changing gears and becoming a lawyer. During his decade as a litigation lawyer he developed a love for single malt whisky and realised that Alberta is world renowned for growing the grain required to make it: barley.
This realisation inspired him to return to school and begin studying for a Masters degree in Brewing & Distilling at Heriot Watt University in Scotland, buy a farm to grow his own barley and build the only distillery in the Country with directed-fired copper pot distillation.
Since launching Anohka Distillery in 2021, their gins have been named Best in Canada 3 times at the World Gin Awards and their new make has been named World’s Best at both the IWSC (95 points) and World Whiskies Awards.
